Must-Know Tips and Tricks for Red Dead Redemption 2 Online

Red Dead Redemption 2 Online

I played the first hour of the Red Dead Redemption 2 campaign and hopped right into online with some friends. Getting familiar with the controls and new gameplay was a bit overwhelming. Fans of GTA should pick up some familiar mechanics but there are some actions that aren’t very obvious. These tips and tricks for Red Dead Redemption 2 Online should make a big difference.

Wash your face and grab a beer

Over by Cripps at your camp you will find a very invited barrel of cold water. Interact with this to clean the grime and trail dust of your face. Right next to that is a case of never-ending beer. Help yourself.

Raise your bandana

The first stop is the tailor in town. Look for the Standard or Trimmed bandana options. If you have the money, pick on up. Once you own a bandana and have it equipped, you can raise and lower it on your face. Open the weapon wheel and scroll to Items. Highlight the bandana image and voila!

Shoot backwards on your horse

On the Xbox you can click the right thumbstick to look backward while still riding your horse. This comes in handy when you’re being chased by the bandits – or the law for that matter.

Fast traveling makes you lose your pelts

Fast traveling on your horse will cause you to lose any of your stowed pelts or animal carcasses.

Dynamite and such

under the weapon wheel, you can cycle through the knife slot to see all sorts of goodies such as dynamite and tomahawks. Replenish these at the gunsmith or through your catalog.

Duck dodge and dive

While aiming your weapon you can hit x on the Xbox or square on the PlayStation to dodge. This comes in real handy when you’re in a shootout with actual players.

Loot saddle bags on horses

Saddle bags can also contain loot. After a big shootout, be sure to spend some time searching horses.

Smoke on the horizon

Smoke on the horizon indicates a bandit camp. There can be quite a few of them so come prepared.

Send a warning shot

Warning shots allow you to scare away predators and tell NPCs and other players you mean business. To shoot in the air, aim your weapon and hold up on the D Pad. This will point your weapon straight up. While holding up on the D Pad, pull the trigger.

Gold medals

While in a mission hit tap on the D pad and go to log to view the mission objectives. This will give you all the subtasks needed to achieve a gold medal.

Auto steer your horse

Hit cinematic mode to auto steer while traveling to waypoints. Traveling across the beautiful landscape of Red Dead Redemption 2 looks even better in cinematic mode.

Rear your horse

Hit RB and X on the XBOX to make your horse rear up. Find yourself a nice moonlit night or sunset and get that pose.

Back it up

Hold RB on the Xbox or R2 on Playstation to back up your wagon or horse. This is incredibly helpful early on when you take on quests that ask you to drive a wagon. This will change your life!

We hope you enjoy these gameplay tips for Red Dead Redemption 2 Online. If you have some additional tips or strategies for us, please leave them in the comments. Happy trails!
